"Solutions orientated thinking and actions are amongst the most powerful tools a modern executive can have. Weaving positive delivery into my business has enabled me to find ways forward with changes that seemed unattainable."
Andrew Fowlie - General Manager, NHS Grampian.
Change Projects
"It is easy to understand and can be implemented without changing a great deal else about what we do. Its emphasis on building on what already works well is attractive to staff who may be tired of fad-like initiatives offering little impact."
Michael Coughlin - Chief Executive, Reading Borough Council.
Change Projects
"The biggest improvement is the change in the behaviour of the management team. The programme gave a clear focus and direction to what people were doing. It was hard work and very rewarding..."
Tim Grier - Managing Director, John Laing Integrated Services.
Raising Performance
"...takes away the bullshit and waffle and cuts to the chase, while still recognising success at the same time. It helps us understand where we are and gives us the opportunity to reflect on our achievements and attainments."
Tim Grier - Managing Director, John Laing Integrated Services.
Strategy Workshops
"More than 15 years ago, I picked up a copy of Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher and William Ury and was immediately excited by their ideas and the thought of applying these concepts in the field... The logic and ethics of the approach are refreshing..."
Nancy Caldwell - Consultant, USA.
"It was the best workshop I have been on for a long time both from the point of view of the usefulness of the content but also from the way it was taught. I also really enjoyed the interactions with the rest of the group."

"Give me feedback or I die" - analysing interactions
In a brilliant introduction to his presentation on Microanalysis, Harry Korman told his audience, “Give me feedback or I die. When I look at you I need you to nod.”
How to avoid spending two grand on telemarketing for just one appointment
As you grow your business, you probably consider various marketing strategies. Here at The Solutions Focus, we’ve experimented with speaking at conferences, writing articles in trade magazines and building a mailing list for our newsletter. More recently, we’ve been developing social media, such as blogging and tweets.
What your clients want – part 2
In part one, we saw why 'What do you want?' can be considered the primary question in the solution-focused approach to change. Yet sometimes practitioners are reluctant to ask, because they suspect that they won’t be able to deliver what’s wanted.
What your clients want - part 1
If you are ever lucky enough to be handed one of my business cards, as well as my pretty face on it you’ll see a question: it asks, ‘What do you want?’
It does so because this is a central question in any solution-focused (SF) conversation. As a question it may seem an obvious one to ask in many contexts – it is difficult, for example, to imagine getting very far as an organisational consultant or as a coach without it.
Solutions Focus - SIMPLE principles
Here are the six SIMPLE principles that form the solution-focused approach.
Staying On The Surface.
Notes from a discussion led by Paul Z Jackson and Joost van Iersel, at SOL Summer Retreat, Fontana Passug August 2012
We say that good Solution Focus practitioners 'stay on the surface'. And we treat this as a good thing. What do we mean by staying on the surface?
Intervision - a neat variation on supervision for managers and coaches
I learned a new word today - ‘intervision’. Any ideas what it means? Well, according to my friend and colleague Dominic Godat, it’s a form of supervision in a group setting.
Supervision, in this sense, is when a group of managers (or coaches or therapists) gather together to get advice and guidance on the current issues and cases that are exercising them.
The philosophical tradition of SF - notes from the EBTA Malmo conference
